Some links on QuakeIndex earn us a commission. This page says which, and what we will not do with them.
What currently earns us anything
Nothing yet. There are no affiliate links and no advertising on this site at the moment. This page exists ahead of them so the rules are written down before there is money attached to bending them.
What we intend to add
- Advertising through Google AdSense.
- Earthquake insurance comparison links, alongside the California Earthquake Authority's own list of participating insurers as the neutral option.
- Seismic retrofit estimates from local contractors.
- Preparedness equipment through Amazon Associates, as specific recommended products rather than generic placements.
Our rules, which are not negotiable
- Never inside an answer. No ad and no paid link goes inside an earthquake page's answer block, the "was that an earthquake?" answer, or a hazard result. Paid links sit below the answer, always.
- The data never changes to suit a link. No page will overstate a hazard, a score, or a risk because there is something to sell next to it. This is the whole reason the method is published and the score is defined as a description of the past.
- No fear. We will not use urgency or alarm to sell anything. See our method and the editorial rules it reflects.
- Marked where it appears. Any page with paid links says so on the page, not only here.
